Past: Jeriko was a loner. He never stayed in one place too long. Then there was a chance someone would want to talk to him be his friend. He didn’t want friends. He had had friends in his old pack but hunters had come and killed or wounded all of them. His mother had died quickly but his father died slowly next to his mother no longer having any will to continue to live without his mate. It had showed Jeriko never to rely on anyone ever.
It changed though that thinking when he was stumbling through the woods in search of water. He had heard a soft bark. It hadn't been loud actually he could barely hear it. He slowly walked towards the sound. To his amazement there was a pup. Pups were never far from a mother. He lifted his nose and took in a deep breathe but there was no scent other than the pup. He felt soft fur hit his and he smiled this pup was his now and he would protect her with everything he had.
Months past and the pup, Frost, had grown older still though she was small, too small. And when she became ill it ripped at Jeriko because there was nothing he could do. He watched as she slowly passed laying with her until she smiled up at him licked his cheek and closed her eyes for the last time. He had been looking for a pack since he found Frost. He hadn’t found one in time but he still had promised he would find a pack to live with because Frost would have wanted it.

Clouds covered the sky; the sun was nowhere to be found. Wind hissed loudly through the trees. The leaves floated to the ground as though they were dancing. Animals ran for shelters. All but one. One lost lone wolf. His pelt was matted with blood, it mixed into his fur causing him to look like a red wolf. His easy held no emotion but those of one who had nothing. He walked without a purpose. Prey moved around him yet he had no desire to chase. Everything he loved was gone. The hunters came and took it all away he had nothing to live for. Why had he lived through that? The images he could never get out of his head even if he wanted too. The pack he grew up with lying side by side destroyed by men. The pieces of his life were scattered among the dead. The pain in his heart was enough to make any person cry. But he wouldn't cry. Crying would show weakness, weakness that couldn't be shone if he was to become a loner. No one would respect him. He didn't want a pack not if it meant the same thing would happen. But he couldn't be alone forever he knew that. When it was time he’d find a pack. He would never leave that pack. He would die in that pack. He couldn’t stand it if he lived and they all died again before his eyes. No if that happened he couldn't go through it again. But he needed to be right in the head before he had a pack that relied on him he needed to find himself, the new Jeriko. The better Jeriko. He could no longer think about that day he could no longer think of ‘what ifs’ it was time to move on. Find his place and that was exactly what he was going to do. He raised his large head, shook the leaves from his pelt. Licked clean some of the blood from his beautiful and began his journey again.
The bright sun above hurt Jeriko's eyes he had to squint to see anything. Trees were supposed to block sun but they weren't doing a dang thing! Jeriko let out a low growl and that's when he heard it a small whimper barely audible. His ears poked up and his head turned in the direction of the sound. Again it came so Jeriko slowly moved forward. He followed the sound the sound of a pup he knew but there was no scent of a mother anywhere. Finally he spotted a bundle of pure white sitting in a pile of dead leaves. Careful he made his way over to the bundle. Tilting his head to the side he nudged it with his nose. The bundle squeaked causing Jeriko to jump back, fearing he had hurt the lost pup. Slowly he again walked to the white fur this time big blue eyes stared up at him. It had been a year since he had been close to a pup. Since his home had been destroyed. Shaking the thought from his head he looked the pup in the eyes. His nose almost touched the pups, the pup moved so that there noses touched, then faster than Jeriko thought a pup could move she was under him lying down.
"Well, I guess that means your mine then, huh?" Jeriko rumbled as he lay down next to the pup curling his body around her to keep her warm. "I thought you were the last patch of frost on the ground at first, little one."
The pup snuggled deeper into him as she yawned.
"Frost, that's a perfect name for you isn't it? My Frost." Jeriko smiled as he watched the pup fall asleep. His heart warm as the last bit of pain left his body.
*Months Later*
"Frost you have to eat!" Jeriko growled looking from the rabbit to his daughter.
"Dad, please, you need it more." Jeriko heard the hollowness in her voice and it crushed him.
"We are close to the pack, Frost will be there in another day or two! You need this to keep going!" He pushed the rabbit towards her.
Frost smiled up at him and touched her nose to his, Jeriko felt his heart break. she had done that only months ago when he had found her. She had grown so much since then. She was still a pup but she was so close to being a year old. Frost was beautiful she would have made a great mother and an amazing anything in a pack. But she wouldn't make it. Even if somehow Jeriko got her to a pack it would be too late no one could help her she was too far gone. Deep down Jeriko had known but he didn't want to expect it. She was is daughter, his child. Frost must have sensed he was lost because she smiled up at him.
"If you don't join that pack I'm going to haunt you until you do though!" Frost teased him like she always did. "I'll scare away all your prey. I'll make sure that the wind messes with your hair so it will never lay flat! Oh, and I'll make everywhere you walk muddy!"
"Now that's not even funny!" Jeriko playfully glared at her.
"I laughed." Frost smiled, "Lay with me please, Dad."
Jeriko nodded as he curled up behind her he was still able to curl his whole body around her to keep her warm. So he did so, laying his tail on top of hers.
"Your a great dad. I know your not my real dad, but thanks for not leaving me." Frost started looking straight ahead with her head on her paws. "I love you. And I hope you find a mate and you have a bunch of pups. And you find happiness. Before you interrupt me cause I know your dying too. I know you were happy with me but don't let it get to you. I'll always be with you, you just won't see me. I'd never leave you."
Jeriko stared at the pup, he couldn't find words. She was wise. Oh, he was going to miss her. But he knew she was telling him it was time and there was nothing he could do about it. He closed his eyes and licked the top of her head. "I love you too, daughter."
His answer seemed to make her happy because she sighed, looked up at him, touched noses with him and closed her eyes. Jeriko felt each one of her breathe's as they became slow and far between until they stopped altogether. He looked down at his pup and licked her head one more time before letting out a mournful howl. His heart was broken. The pup broke his heart but not in the way he thought she would. He had wanted her to break it by finding a male who she would want to spend more time with than him, but fate had a different plan, his pup broke his heart by leaving before him. Slowly getting to his feet he touched noses with her before turning away. He would find the pack and do his best to protect everyone of his pack members no matter what. He stopped at the top of a hill and looked down at the white bundle laying in a pile of dead leaves. He howled one last time in farewell and ran towards his future. His fur was ruffled by the wind and he new his daughter was with him.
