The blustering winter wind flew through the trees, carrying the scent of everything it saw. It darted around needled tree branches and skipped over boulders. Not many creatures were out in this weather, for the frisky breeze cut through their fluffy winter coats. However, a white female wolf braced herself against a sudden gale. Her fur was fluffed up as high as it could get, yet a shiver rolled through her body. Lilac dug her claws into the hard soil to steady herself. She had to move on, and let the rabbits re-populate. She had been in this area for about a fortnight, taking advantage of the abundance of small mammals. Indeed, her pelt had filled out a bit, providing her with a thin layer of insulation against the low temperatures of wintertime. She longed for the warmth of her former pack, trying to recall what it felt like to be snuggled cozily in a warm, windless den. Now, she spent her nights alone, curled up as tight as she could, sheltering wherever she could find suitable–though rarely warm–lodging.
Lilac’s amber eyes were slits in her innocent-looking face as she walked against the wind. She couldn’t help but let out a little whine as she was buffed every which way. Her travel hardened pads barely felt the hard little pebbles that crunched as she walked. They carried her closer and closer to the trees that marked the beginning of a vast forest. Suddenly, the wind dropped and her pelt was allowed to lie flat. Lilac paused, bewildered. The ringing in her ears faded away, and she realized that she had made it. Thoroughly chilled, she bent her head to the ground in search of an abandoned den or another form of shelter. Accustomed to hearing the wind in her ears for a good hour or so, every noise seemed loud and sharp. The white adolescent twitched her ears nervously and took several deep breaths, letting the forest smells sift through her nostrils. When her hearing had returned to normal, she set off once more, moving deeper into the woods. She kept her nose in the air, and her ears swiveling, one of the habits she had picked up that had kept her alive.
Lilac soon came across a fallen tree, propped up on its tangle of roots and dirt. She bounded excitedly over, tail wagging slightly. She sniffed along the length of the trunk, making sure she had no unexpected neighbors. Satisfied, she returned to the base of the log and began digging, her claws scraping against the semi-frozen soil. When she had made a shallow depression, she circled a few times before dropping down with a sigh. Her stomach rumbled, but she ignored it. She needed rest, or else she risked wasting her energy if she tried hunting with fuzzy senses. She had only been asleep for about an hour when a powerful howl jerked her awake. Heart pounded, Lilac scrambled to her feet, looking for any sign that a wolf was nearby. Her eyes widened in alarm as she detected the scent of wolf. However, she soon realized that it was not fresh, and that it was a border marker. A sense of shame washed over her. She should’ve noticed that before she went to sleep. Thank goodness no one had come to refresh the border.
The howl that had awoken the young fae no doubt belonged to a high-ranking wolf, probably either an Alpha or a Beta. It had been a call to feed, something Lilac was grateful for. She had no idea how big this pack was, but all the wolves should be heading back to camp, and she was less likely to be found before she wanted to. She wouldn’t announce her presence now, before the pack had eaten their fill. She had learned, mainly from observing what happened when two loners met, that wolves on empty stomachs were much more likely to be aggressive towards strangers. Lilac decided to go on a hunting trip of her own, away from the border, to satisfy the hunger gnawing at her belly. Soon, she had returned after catching an old hare and a sleepy, confused squirrel. She settled her ivory haunches down and waited for awhile longer. Finally, she tipped her maw back and let loose a howl, lettingthe pack wolves know that a stranger awaited them at their border.

When the last note had faded from her ears, Lilac stood and shook her snowy white coat out. She self-consciously ran her tongue across her pelt. She knew that any wolf with enough sense to be accepted into a pack would expect some a loner to look at least slightly disheveled from their travels. But her adrenaline-spiked nerves refused to allow to her sit still. She did not know a single shred of information about the pack whose borders she waited at now. She had heard a few stories about very aggressive packs, who accepted only those they didn’t manage to slay. Even as a pup, she had disregarded those stories as tall tales intended to teach young wolves to be cautious around strange packs. But as she waited nervously by the border, the old tall tales surfaced, bringing vivid and gruesome images to her mind. Wolves that aggressive didn’t exist. And if they did, no Alpha would be crazy enough to accept them into a pack. Or would they?
A powerful howl cut through the crisp, late winter air. Lilac, a tense bundle of nerves, actually jumped a good half foot or so off the ground. Immediately, her ears burned with embarrassment. She began pacing back and forth in front of her makeshift den, forcing herself to calm down. Sure, the howl had held a challenging tone to it, but that was expected. No self-respecting Alpha would make an unknown wolf feel comfortable so close to the border. She couldn’t help a half-snort. As much as she was reluctant to admit it, she posed little to no threat to the wolf whose howl held so much authority. She just wasn’t a fighter. This ugly truth caused a jet of worry to strike her mind. Would this pack be willing to accept a wolf who didn’t seem able to defend its borders? She had no time to dwell on the matter, for her fine-tuned senses had alerted her to the presence of another wolf. She tilted her nose up slightly, but could catch no fresh scent. However, she couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. Her amber eyes scanned the other side of the border, but she found nothing. Her heart pounded and her hackles were raised in a futile attempt to make herself look bigger. Now that she was faced with a real wolf, her mind shoved away the wild tales and focused on survival. Then, with an inaudible sigh of relief, she spotted them. A pair of bright blue eyes hidden in the bushes. A split second after she had located the wolf, the owner of those blue eyes stepped forward.
The fact that Lilac actually stood taller than the pack wolf was the first thought that ran through her mind. The second was that the wolf's fierce snarl revealed blood-stained teeth. Lilac stared, frozen in place. The only thing she saw were the pointed fangs, red and suddenly covered in fresh blood. She heard the snarls, growls, and yelps that made her gut writhe. Not again, not again! Then, unfamiliar words, born by an unfamiliar voice, brought Lilac back to reality. Her heart plummeted in the half second it took fro her to see the other fae's dominant stance. She immediately dropped to the ground, her tail tucked under belly and ears pressed flat against her head. Her eyes were filled with fear; she knew she hadn't done it fast enough. As the black and white furred fae continued to glare at her, Lilac realized with a start that she had not answered the questions posed to her. This was not turning out well. "I know not of the one you call Bantu. I am but a young fae who seeks a family. I apologize for my apparent disregard of your borders. In my exhaustion I did not take notice, though I know that is no excuse." She replied, adopting the formal tone of her questioner and hoping everything would work out.

We shouldn't waste anymore time... The day had been slow as of late, events moving at a meager pace with no signs of excitement. A raven black figure lay comfortably upon his perch, amber eyes seeming to pierce the soul and contain a miniscule cluster of Hell's fire - though this was only a handful's view on the gemstone-like orbs which the brute called his eyes. The figure's chest rose at an even rate, taking in precious oxygen then disposing of what remained, as the silent forest deafened his ears, the male decided to remain on the overgrown log until night fall and that decision remained final...until a brisk howl woke his interest. Allegro. The Alpha's message was clear and firm; she was requesting his presence to, most likely, assist with a loner upon their borders. Fell dare not defy her and wished not to in the first place, his enormous raven stature already rushing to her call, an overgrown log already bare of its company.
Paws trampled through the forest with haste though each step was taken with precision, other creatures dispersing in fear of the canine. What awaited him? Fell had no clue and curiosity was not a usual trait of his, in the end his Alpha required his protection and a free-ranging wolf longed for a pack's comfort and resources; what else did he expect to find? Scents flooded ebony nostrils, the brisk wind bringing markers of whom he was about to encounter to his knowledge immediately. Both were female, one being Allegro, the other unknown, no other information was deciphered. As the Beta neared their position, a voice caught his attention. It was highly feminine, formal and harshly cautious. Had Allegro frightened the poor fae already? Fell chuckled at the thought, a deep, haunting sound almost though possibly bordering pleasing. Immediately Fell stepped into the area the she-wolves conversed in, not wasting any time on the matter. First he located his Alpha, the focus of his attention in the beginning, to assure her safety and, without words, let her to know he answered her request. Next amber eyes fell upon the ivory figured amongst them. Within an instant Fell had compared her dimensions to their own. Possibly a mere inch shorter than Allegro yet a foot or more beneath his own towering build, the intruder was longer and appeared heavier than his Alpha. No wonder she had requested his presence, though the Beta knew his Alpha was more than capable of handling herself, it was best he was there to protect her - just in case.
Having caught her last few words, Beta Fell finally spoke, his voice firm though not harsh, "It is good you are not of Bantu or you will fall where you stand. Family we can provide but mistakes such as yours are not a good start to acceptance, she-wolf. But, perhaps, we can over look such a mistake..." Amber hues fled to Allegro, a slight smirk playing upon his muzzle at his last words, before he returned to look at the loner, face again serious, "that is, if your skills deem worthy."
Let's get this started...

Whereas Fell was not known to joke with wolves he had just met, he sometimes took kicks out of making fun of them. Allegro found it amusing, but Lilac was so frightened already. The words had barely left Lilac’s mouth when a deep chuckle sounded from the bushes. She did not flinch at the unexpected noise, but merely flicked her ear in the hidden brute’s direction. Moments ago, as she had been speaking, she had caught a faint whiff of a wolf bearing a similar scent to the Alphess she was addressing. Due to the wind blowing away from her, she hadn’t detected him until a heartbeat before he had announced his presence. However, she only needed a heartbeat to recognize his arrival. As the new wolf stepped out into the clearing, Lilac felt a slight tremor of apprehension ripple through her body. This dark-furred brute was massive, and powerfully built. Out of the corner of her eye, Lilac noticed that the Alphess had relaxed at the brute’s arrival. The white fae’s fear, borne from instincts that taught wolves of sound mind not to start fights they were bound to lose, began to ebb as thought replaced instinct. This brute would not attack without the Alphess’s command, and Lilac was not so foolish – nor brave enough, for that matter – to do anything that might provoke him. She remained in a submissive position, keeping her eyes on the ground. She felt his eyes rove over her, instantly sizing her up. She was accustomed to this by now, after stumbling upon other lone wolves in her travels.
The male wolf’s voice was a stark contrast to Lilac’s own soft tones. His tone left no doubt that he was a high-ranking wolf, likely a Beta. Maybe it was the way he held himself, but in an unidentifiable way, he reminded Lilac of her father, a Beta himself, when he spoke to the pack as a whole. This comparison, strange as it was, caused her fear to retreat completely. If these wolves had meant her harm, they would have struck her down already, as the dark-furred wolf had point out. As long as she was careful with her posture and her words, she was not in danger of being attacked by the two wolves. Even so, she kept a keen eye on the wolves’ bodies to catch the slightest indication of aggression or anger. She flattened her ears at his slight reprimand. She caught the quick, easygoing exchange between the brute and the Alphess, and she permitted herself the barest hint of a smile. It appeared that the Alphess was on good terms with the wolves she led. This would be a good pack to join. That is, if they were willing to accept a wolf such as herself.
Ah yes, my skills….Lilac thought with a slight unease. She had come to realize that she would never be a fighter, or a hunter, or even a
guard. Her personality simply would not let her do those things effectively. Luckily, she had also discovered her strengths, now that she was away from the slightly pampered environment she had grown up in. Taking a deep breath, she rose to a sitting position. She kept her ears flat and her head lowered slightly, but lifted her amber eyes to the brute’s face for the first time. She made sure not to make eye contact for more than a second, instead lowering her gaze a notch to his muzzle. “I will be honest with you, and cut to the chase. As you might’ve been able to tell, I’m not built for a guard. I’m not a gifted hunter. My fighting skills are mediocre. But my memory is sharp, my senses keen, and my body young.” She switched her focus from the strong brute to the black and cream Alphess, making sure to directly address her as well. “During my journey, I came to realize that helping wolves is what I love. It’s what I’m good at. It was usually I who offered words of encouragement to my brothers after a tough day of sparring, or willingly and happily accompanied the Sigma to collect herbs when no one else did. I even learned to identify a few common plants and the basic remedies they provided. I offer myself as a Sigma apprentice, willing to learn how to treat wounds of all kinds.” At the end of her little speech, she licked her lips nervously but resisted the urge to glance between her listeners. It would convey a sense of unconfidence, and make her words sound rehearsed rather than an honest look at her strengths and weaknesses.

'Cause it feels right...
Now that all had assembled, the remaining tension amongst them had vanished like morning fog, dispersing into the air without a trace of being. Now all that remained was the stern matter at paw; accepting the loner. Though his persona came across cold and perhaps teasing, the latter perhaps somewhat true, the Beta was, truthfully, simply in a sincere and concentrated mood; as he usually was with everything. Taking Allegro's acceptance of the earlier introduction in silence, the black muzzle stay clamped until another statement was needed. Before her smooth words graced them, words delivered in mellow tones though nothing short of an Alpha's necessary vigor, the male's ears had paned in her direction to catch, dare it be, an opposing snap of the tongue? It took much muscle effort to hold back a responding smirk at the leader's dislike, the brute finding distraction in the ivory she-wolf.
Awaiting her answer became a growing pain, the slow day having an effect on his usually steady patience. Moistened sand-papered raked across his teeth, catching what of breakfast remained in their grasp, nothing in his canines worth the effort. Beta Fell inclined his head mere centimeters when he caught Allegro's signature warning, his joking manner following pursuit of the previous tension. Opening his mouth to speak, Fell let his canines return to their darken chamber when the loner finally replied. How had she taken his approach? The reply was rigged, a side-effect of her nervousness, and harshly lacking confidence; a trait Fell would, be she accepted, correct. The brute was aware his size made some uncomfortable, but to Fell one had to be accustomed to meeting those whom would tower to the skies or present a stare of unmatched intensity. So far she handled it fairly, along with conveying his message earlier correcting as well, unlike some whom quivered and could hardly meet his eyes, let alone decipher his speech, and Fell respected the response.
"They say honesty is the first lesson in the ways of wisdom." Spoke the Beta as the information came ceased. "And although it is well to know your weaknesses, there is always room for improvement; especially in a mind so young and body not sculptured yet by life's brisk winds." A hollow breath escaped him, some of his words spoken had been told by mouth and the owner the muzzle whom repeated them, also told by another in their earlier stages of life, brought uncomfortable remembrance. "Though my Alpha has the final decision she-wolf, you sound fit for our rankings in what I've seen in heard. Need for a Sigma never falters, there is always room for more; just as there is always room for another blade of grass in a meadow. Miniscule at first but a drastic part in the overall tapestry. Luckily, we have a Sigma available whom you will be apprentice of. As she ponders your fate, fret not - she shall be quick, I wish to hear more of your family life. Skills lie important to daily life as is realizing our faults, but it is the past which shapes whom we are, memories which assist us in tackling another harsh day. New memories will come but old ones remain. You mention brothers? I too had brothers; see, even in such a strict situation, two strangers can be similar?"
You know I made up my mind...

Lilac dipped her head respectfully but did not speak. She doubted that her fighting skills would ever increase beyond self-defense; it just was against her nature. However, it never hurt to learn the theory, even if she was not quite suited to putting it into practice. A small smile graced her innocent face, accompanied by a slight tail wag. She was so much closer to finding a new family, and start living as a wolf should: in a pack. Any lingering traces of doubt left over from her early years of training to hunt and fight, and hearing about the glories of supporting your pack with your own flesh and blood, evaporated as Fell continued speaking. After hearing his analogy, she was certain that she was meant to take the path of Sigma, just as important as the hunters and fighters, but in a more calm and peaceful way. Lilac hoped that one day, wolves of the pack would describe her as calm and peaceful as well. But for now, she was enticed by the prospect of starting over in a new pack, with new wolves, and a new calling. She gave a quick glance at the cream and dark fae as the brute mentioned her in his little speech. She holds my future in her paws. And neither of them know my name. She realized with slight surprise. She would change that the moment she got the chance.
As the brute continued on, Lilac's stomach turned over. The past... memories... they never disappear. Despite a growing dread, the snow-colored fae gave the dark-furred wolf a wry smile. She had noticed his use of the word 'had'. It referred to the fact that they were no longer with him. Whether they were separated by distance or death, it didn't matter. For Lilac, it was both. "So, my family?" She started, looking directly at the brute. "I guess the beginning is a good place to start. I am Lilac, daughter of Beta Pair Angel and Storm. I had two littermates, Ash and Spruce. Everywhere we went, we heard older wolves say something along the lines of: Ash and Spruce, one of 'em's gonna be Alpha. I never envied them. Rather, I felt proud to be their sister. After all, they were built for the role. Much like yourself, to be honest." She recalled, her gaze refocusing as she referenced the brute. She smiled as she remembered her puphood. "It was always the three of us. Lilac, Ash and Spruce. Spruce, Ash, and Lilac. There were other pups our age, of course, but we never really got to know them. We were content with each other, and our well-respected and loving parents. Then, one day, I... I" She paused, her face taking on a darker expression for the first time since her departure. She was no longer by a strange pack's border, no longer recounting her past to two high ranking wolves. All she saw were flashes of memories, from that life-changing day to the blurred weeks of solitude. "One day, I decided it would be best if I left." She finished. Her mind gradually returned to the present, and she looked up at the brute, gauging his reaction. She was curious as to his experience with brothers, but knew personally that there were some things buried so deep within your soul that it took a very patient wolf to dig it out.

Shiloh ❝Everyone says I should tell you how I feel. But its not that simple, I'd rather be your best friend than end up being the awkward girl with all the feelings...❞ [мσσ∂ ;; Cranky] [Ɯιтн ;; Lilac, Fell, Allegro.] [яɛℓαтισиƨнιρ ;; Currently crushless. The delicate scent of the forest invaded her sensitive nose as she searched for herbs to add to her collection. Scent after scent assaulted her, caressing her carefully up turned nose with an intensity only matched by the onslaught of fighting wolves. Every scent battled to be the dominant one in the nose of the dark pelted Sigma. It angered her that she could not specify which was which, even though a average wolf would not even be able to smell the scents that tickled the hairs upon her maw. Wind whispered sweet nothings in her ears as it ran it's calloused fingers across her ear tips, causing a shiver to run up her spine at the chill they left in their absence. Her multi-toned eyes then closed as something reached them, soft and faint, barely noticeable. A howl of sorts, it was probably coming from the border. With a soft huff, she realized she should probably go see who it was. She hated meeting new wolves, but someone had to recruit members. Even as she thought this, though, she set her pace at a slow and steady walk. If someone else got there before she did, all she'd have to do is sit there and watch. It'd be better to let the Alpha deal with them. That Alphess was a charismatic young girl, always wooing wolves to join her pack. And that handsome chunk of meat she called her Beta made all the ladies join just for a chance to nibble on some of his deliciousness. His mysteriousness and power caught the ladies while the Alpha's beauty and charm caught the males. Shiloh was just an old, battered coot. She'd go to get a member to join and they'd run in fear of her brute honesty. Either way, she'd go to the border.
Soon enough, her paws reached the edge of the treeline that announced the ending of the pack's territory. And sure enough, the duo were there to accept the lass who had howled. She was a pretty young thing, all white and big amber eyes. Shiloh slowly made her way down to her chatting pack mates with a nearly inaudible groan. Now she had to sit through the discussion of families and loyalty. Yuck. The topics brought up while wolves were joining a pack never appeased to Shiloh, mostly because they all thought they had it so bad. If half of them had tried to walk a mile in her paws, they would have even lasted the first pawstep. Shiloh wasn't bitter, per-say, just a bit cranky and temperamental at times. As she finally made it to the wolves, a soft catch in her breath announced her presence. Then, came the tell tale sign of the cranky healer. "Fox dung! Stupid rocks are scraping up my pads. Allegro, did you really have to choose a mountain to live on, for star's sakes. A mountain?!? Really. And, you, Mr. Hot Shot. How about you consider people's feelings before just asking about there families. Maybe young Lilac here didn't wish to dig up old memories. You are so rude sometimes." The black she-wolf grumbled as she made her way in front of the white wolf. Of course, Allegro would accept her, but it was up to Shiloh to find out if she was capable of being a Sigma.
Shiloh started out abrupt, shoving her nose into the she-wolf's pelt and inhaling deeply. She did indeed smell slightly of herbs, though these herbs were extremely different than the ones found in her mountains. The soft scent of the she-wolf was inviting, but she pulled away as swiftly as she had put her nose up to the wolf. Then, her blue and green eyes going to Lilac's face, she demanded clearly, "Show me your paw pads." She left no room for questioning. If this... pup was going to be her apprentice, she'd learn to do what she was told with little questioning if any. If not, she would wear down Shiloh's nerves extremely swift and she may have a dead body to deal with. The black she-wolf literally shook these thoughts out of her head. Her killing days were over, even when wolves annoyed her. She had to keep her temper. So with, her multi-colored eyes trained on Lilac's face, she waited patiently.

Before the dark furred brute had a chance to respond, a strange yet fleetingly familiar scent passed through Lilac's nostrils. She inhaled again, both curious and confused. Before she could try to analyze the smell, a soft breath emerged from the treeline. Lilac turned her head, her amber eyes searching through the deceptive shadows for the source of the sound. She didn't have to search for long at all, for an irritable voice exploded from the trees, its ebony furred owner revealing herself. It took an immense amount of self control on Lilac's part to stop a grin from breaking out. Looking like she was enjoying a laugh at her superiors' expense would not make for a good start. Based on her scolding manner towards the two highest ranking wolves, Lilac figured that this was the Sigma she would hopefully be an apprentice too. Despite the Sigma's cranky countenance, Lilac was excited. This fae reminded her of her favorite elder, back in her old pack. Tough and blunt, she had instilled fear in all the pups at some point. Lilac was no exception. However, it soon became apparent that the retired fae was by far the best story-teller, weaving her audience into her tales. Lilac recalled fondly the times she sat, starry eyed, listening to an epic battle, and the hours spent afterward as she and the other pups tried to re-enact the story. The black-pelted wolf quickly traversed the distance between herself and the ivory fae, startling Lilac back to the present. Her eyes widened in surprise as she felt the cold nose press into her fur. Caught off guard, she shrank away from the touch before returning to her former position. She had no idea what the Sigma was doing, but she trusted the Alphess's judgment in placing this ebony fae in the position of Sigma.
Lilac's eyes widened in surprise as she noticed the different colored eyes of her examiner. She had never heard of wolves with multi-colored irises. Then the black fae made her request, and Lilac hesitated only a second before lifting her forepaw and twisting it so that her pads were facing the sky above. It was the strangest thing she had ever been asked. Worry snaked its way into her stomach. What was the fae looking for? Surely it wouldn't be toughness, for hadn't she herself just complained of scraped pads? No, it was something else. Lilac knew she was a sort of disadvantage, not having been chosen at birth. At this point, she resolved that if she passed the test, she would work extra hard to make up the difference. She was not going to mess up this chance at starting over, not when she had figured out what rank to strive for. She was only going to get older, and if she didn't make good use of her time, she would find herself shunted from pack to pack, not good enough for anything. Thank goodness she had been asked to accompany the her former Sigma and his apprentice so often; she had learned to recognize commonly used plants, and knew the theory of how to make simple poultices. Lilac glanced down at her upside-down paw, wondering what it was that might make her special, and knew it wouldn't be long before she found out.

Resurrected Rabbit!
A man was driving along the highway, and saw a rabbit hopping across the middle of the road. He swerved to avoid hitting the rabbit, but unfortunately the rabbit jumped in front of the car and was hit. The driver, being a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulled over to the side of the road, and got out to see what had become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit was dead. The driver felt so awful, he began to cry. A woman driving down the highway saw the man crying on the side of the road and pulled over. She stepped out of her car and asked the man what was wrong. "I feel terrible," he explained, "I accidently hit this rabbit and killed it." The woman told the man not to worry. She knew what to do. She went to her car trunk, and pulled out a spray can. She walked over to the limp, dead rabbit, and sprayed the contents of the can onto the rabbit. Miraculously the rabbit came to life, jumped up, waved it’s paw at the two humans and hopped down the road. 50 meters away the rabbit stopped, turned around, waved and hopped down the road, another 50 meters, turned, waved and hopped another 50 meters. The man was astonished. He couldn’t figure out what substance could be in the woman’s spray can!! He ran over to the woman and demanded, "What is in your spray can? What did you spray on that rabbit?" The woman turned the can around so that the man could read the label. It said: "Hair spray. Restores life to dead hair. Adds permanent wave."

The Child and His Mother!A curious child asked his mother: “Mommy, why are some of your hairs turning grey?”The mother tried to use this occasion to teach her child: “It is because of you, dear. Every bad action of yours will turn one of my hairs grey!”The child replied innocently: “Now I know why grandmother has only grey hairs on her head.”
